History On Stage
2006-07 Season

The Acting Company, 2003 TONY Honoree for Excellence in Theater, presents one touring production for NYC Metro Area schools, Community Centers, Museums and Day Care Facilities. These shows are curriculum-relevant educational entertainment performed by performers of the highest caliber. Each hour-long play features one actor portraying a significant historical figure and chronicling major events in the life of that person.

The actors taking part in this program will be engaged for a two-to-three week period during which they will be available for performances at schools throughout the NYC area. All shows come with curriculum-relevant supporting materials to maximize the learning/entertainment experience. This February, make The Acting Company’s Education Programming part of your students’ experience.

Harriet Returns for Us
by Karen Jones-Meadows
On Tour February to March 2007
This play is a one-woman interactive show that allows students to hear and experience the life of Harriet Tubman. Audiences will be immersed in her tale of becoming, simply, one of the most noted, heroic figures recognized worldwide. Not only does this show educate students, it incorporates them directly into the production. Students are invited to physically take a walk with her through the Underground Railroad, creating a unique first person observation of history. This play encourages a deeper understanding of both Tubman’s life and this complicated period of America’s past.

The Acting Company’s HISTORY ON STAGE touring series is made possible
in part by a grant from
Newman's Own Foundation
