This past year (2009-10), The Acting Company in association with The Guthrie Theater presented  Romeo and Juliet. For six weeks, The Acting Company presented the New York premiere of Carson McCullers’ poignant novel The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, adapted for the stage by acclaimed playwright Rebecca Gilman and directed by Doug Hughes, co-produced with the New York Theatre Workshop. In 2008-09, The Acting Company with the Guthrie presented Henry V, in repertory with Jeffrey Hatcher's stage adaptation of James Fenimore Cooper's espionage novel The Spy. In 2007-08, we presented Orson Welles' Moby Dick Rehearsed, a stage adaptation of Herman Melville's classic, and William Shakespeare's magical last play, The Tempest. For the 2006-2007 season, The Acting Company presented Polly Teale's adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic Jane Eyre and Student Performances of Love, Shakespeare. The 2005-06 Season included Shakepeare's Macbeth and Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers. In 2004-05, The Turn of the Screw was joined in touring repertory by Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona. In 2003, Murder by Poe continued The Acting Company’s series of commissioning, developing and producing new plays based on great American literature. Following powerful and successful productions of Willa Cather’s O Pioneers! (2000-01), Mark Twain’s Pudd’nhead Wilson (2001-02) and Stud's Terkel's American  Dreams: Lost and Found (2002-03), Murder by Poe brought to the stage the work of one of our country's most well-known and widely read writers. In 2005-06, we presented The Lottery by Shirley Jackson for student audiences nationwide. Our commissioned adaptation of Carson McCullers' The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter played 5 weeks in Atlanta prior to a tour southern cities.
