Roslyn Ruff (Portia)
An Acting Company Alumnus, Roslyn has appeared Off Broadway as Lady
Macbeth in Macbeth at the Classical Theatre of Harlem. A
production which also played the 2003 Bonn Biennial Festival and the
2003 Shakespeare Festival of Neuss in Germany; created the role of
Roxy in Charles Smith’s adaptation of Mark Twain’s Pudd’nhead
Wilson and played the Widow/ Servant in Taming of the Shrew
with The Acting Company national tour and in NYC. Regional theatre
credits include Cordelia in King Lear at Yale Repertory
Theatre, Ismene in The Oedipus Plays with The Shakespeare
Theatre of DC as part of the 2003 Athens Festival in Greece; Evadne,
The Good Fairy in A Panto: Sleeping Beauty; Miss Leighton/
Cigarette Girl in Once in A Lifetime and Hester in Suzan
Lori-Parks’ In the Blood at the People’s Light and Theatre
Co, Snakina/ Popova in Three Farces and a Funeral at the
American Repertory Theatre. Television credits: “the Jury” (Fox),
“The Sopranos” (HBO) and “All My Children” (ABC). Film credits
include the SAG indie film Frat Boy. Ms Ruff holds an MFA
from the Moscow Art Theatre/ American Repertory Theatre Institute
for Advanced Theatre Training @ Harvard University. She was awarded
the 2003 Barrymore Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play by
the Philadelphia Theatre Alliance – Hester, In the Blood.
1999 Buffalo Artvoice Award for Supporting Actress in a Play – Mrs.
Jackson, The Amen Corner. Other favorite roles: Madame in
The Maids, Rosetta/Prime Minister in Leonce and Lena,
Delia in Blues for an Alabama Sky, Evie in Oscar Brown Jr.’s
In De Beginnin’, Dutchess in The Water Hen and
Delia/Woman/Missie Mae in Spunk.
